National Reconciliation Week

Published: May 27, 2016

Medibank stands For Better Health. One of the ways we’re striving to achieve this is through our group wide Diversity & Inclusion Strategy, with work groups dedicated to key areas such as culture.

A major part of our culture program is supporting the national reconciliation effort that strengthens the mutually trusting and positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians.

This year marks 25 years of Australia’s reconciliation journey with the theme: ‘Our history, Our story, Our future,’ asking all Australians to reflect on our national identity, and the valuable place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders histories, cultures and rights in our nation’s story.

The theme reminds us all that the journey to reconciliation is important for our healthy future together and Medibank will mark the week with cultural walks, wellbeing sessions and the launch of our tailoured Aboriginal Quitline Program.

Medibank is proud of its formal contribution to this effort through our Reconciliation Action Plan – through a whole of organisation effort we have achieved all 22 actions we set out to accomplish.

In the coming months we will work together on developing a new Reconciliation Action Plan, and recognising the role we can play in Better Health For All, will continue to increase our commitment towards closing the gap, ending racism and achieving a shared sense of pride and fairness.

The Sydney team went on a reconciliation walk for National Reconciliation Week.
