Introducing Raj Verma, Public Sector Secondee with Medibank

Published: July 19, 2016

Medibank’s Talent Engagement team is partnering with Business Council of Australia (BCA) on an exciting cross-sector secondment initiative. This program has been designed to provide senior executives within the public service an opportunity to build their capability in a private sector environment, while Medibank also has the opportunity to collaborate with and learn more about the government sector.

Our first secondee is Raj Verma, Director of Clinical Program Design and Implementation at the NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation, who will be working within Medibank’s Utilisation Management team for six months. Raj has almost 30 years of experience working in health, particularly in service and quality improvement.

Hear some of Raj’s thoughts on this exciting opportunity:

What interested you about this secondment opportunity at Medibank?

It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to learn about how the private sector works in health. Medibank seems to have a strong focus on creating better health for their members, moving well beyond just funding hospital services, which is very impressive. Understanding how a private company develops new programs and analyses return on investment is also of great interest to me.

What will you be working on during your time at Medibank? What do you hope to bring away from the experience?

I am working with the Utilisation Management team within the Provider Network Integrated Care space. I think there are many potential lessons in how to improve the health of Australians that can be learnt and shared in both directions.
