“Visiting and working with so many communities means I am constantly learning new things.”

What made you want to join Medibank?
As a proud Aboriginal woman from the Kamilaroi Nation, I have always loved working in Aboriginal Health and Community Services within the many diverse communities across regional and remote areas of New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

The role of a Program Coordinator, within the Mental Health space, caught my eye because I saw it as a great opportunity to broaden my work within Aboriginal Health. After researching more about Medibank, I realised how large an organisation we really are and the positive impact we can have. For example, I read about Medibank’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and I could see how proudly committed Medibank is to working towards a society where there is equal access to health services and better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and for all Australians. I knew I wanted to be a part of this organisation which not only values its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, but also recognises the value of working together for better health outcomes.

What is your proudest/most enjoyable moment at Medibank?
There have been many proud and enjoyable moments; one, in particular, has been developing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness tab on our group intranet, for all employees to access. This page was designed to provide information on significant dates and an overview on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness. The page was launched at this year’s National Reconciliation Week, which was a big highlight for me.

What’s the best thing about working for Medibank?
There are so many incredible things about working at Medibank! I’d have to say that one of the most rewarding things is working with a team of passionate professionals and having the opportunity to share my cultural background and knowledge with them. Also, being able to visit and work with so many communities means I am constantly learning new things.

How does Medibank help you to do the things in life you love most?
I love to be out in the community, working with people across NSW and the ACT. I get to work with so many dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate people in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Services.

How do your managers or senior leaders inspire and guide you to help you achieve your potential?
Through encouragement, support and believing in the work we do within our communities! I am inspired by our leaders who are actively engaged and committed to the Reconciliation Action Plan, as well as always looking at creating new pathways for their employees to continue growing and developing professionally.

What would you say to someone considering a role at Medibank?
There are so many opportunities for growth! If you are looking for a new challenge, and a great team environment, with people who are committed to and passionate about the work they do, then this is the place to be!
