An individual’s career doesn’t just progress by itself. There are different factors that can move your career in the right direction, including the people that surround you and the chances you take.
Duy Nguyen, Senior IT Technician at Medibank, has been fortunate in both instances, crossing paths with the right people and taking advantage of opportunities as he sees them.
Duy started his career journey within the telehealth company McKesson, in the IT help desk team in Sydney, before it was acquired by Medibank. In mid-2011, Duy relocated to Melbourne in the same role and eventually began to branch out, assisting a number of Medibank offices Nationally.
“When I moved to Melbourne, I met the Head of IT Service Delivery, who asked me to join the newly created FIT Desk team at Medibank Place. FIT Desk is an innovative solution that allows employees a face-to-face interaction to resolve their IT enquiries. Since joining the team, I haven’t looked back.”
In the time that Duy has been a part of Medibank Place, he has had the opportunity to not only witness the growth of the FIT Desk team but also be a major part of its growth.
“Initially, we started off with a small team of two people but it has now expanded to nine, supporting Melbourne, Sydney at the ahm business in Wollongong. I can proudly say that we are making some progressive changes to a traditional corporate IT Helpdesk.”

The impact that individuals can have within their team, as well as in the business as a whole, begins with the attitude they bring to work. Duy’s positive energy and hard work are something his colleagues can attest to, so it came as no surprise to them when he was announced as a nominee in Medibank’s highly recognised award program, the SHINE Awards.
“I aim to drive my team to go above and beyond for our customers, all with a positive attitude. So when I was nominated for a SHINE Award in the Customer Obsessed category, it reinforced the fact that I’m doing something right, and that’s an amazing feeling.”

Not afraid of grabbing opportunities that come his way, one of Duy’s favourite memories with Medibank was meeting CEO, Craig Drummond, and the rest of the Executive Leadership team. This is something, he says, will stay with him forever.
“I was asked to interview John Goodall, Executive General Manager Technology & Operations. That was definitely a fun experience and one I won’t ever forget. It’s amazing what happens and who you meet when you just open yourself up to new things.”
Being a part of IT at Medibank you regularly meet new people. Duy enjoys getting to know his peers and is even more determined to spread his positivity around the office.
“Everybody has their own story, and that inspires me to work hard and always do better. I put happiness first and try my hardest to bring this attitude to the people around me.”
