Medibank has proudly announced that we are one of the first major Australian partners of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 – the international sporting event for wounded, injured, and ill servicemen, women, and veterans.
The Invictus Games is an initiative of Prince Harry bringing together more than 500 athletes from 18 countries to compete in 10 adaptive sports in Sydney in October 2018.
The Games use the power of sport to motivate recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding of the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve their country.
CEO Craig Drummond said Medibank is proud to support the Invictus Games Sydney 2018.
“We are proud to be a premier partner of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and hope that the men and women who keep us safe and serve our nation are as inspired by the Games as we are by them,” Craig said.
“The Games give us an opportunity to demonstrate our support for serving and ex-serving men and women.
“At Medibank, our purpose is For Better Health – better health for our customers and better health for all Australians. Improving the health and wellbeing of our military and veteran communities is a key part of that purpose.
“We don’t just sponsor the Games, our commitment to our military, their physical and mental health, their family, their community and their future goes far beyond that.
“Our Garrison Health Services team delivers a national, integrated healthcare service to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). We provide access to quality healthcare to the 60,000+ permanent and 20,000+ reservist uniformed ADF personnel – from point of injury or illness to recovery.
“We also support Soldier On and Mates4Mates and are proud to be a signatory to the Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Program, recognising the unique skills and professional attributes that veterans have to offer,” Craig said.
Competitors selected to form part of the 2018 Australian team will have the opportunity to compete in a range of adaptive sports including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sailing and swimming.
