Awarded for her ‘Simpler the Better’ approach, Nat is driven to continue making IT less complex

Published: November 17, 2017

The Medibank Shine Awards takes place annually, recognising employees who have made a positive and strong impact on our customers, the business, and the community. In 2016, there were eight award categories – Customer Obsessed, Values-Driven, Collaboration, People Leader, Health Champion, Simpler the Better, Results Driven, and the overall Executive Leadership Team Award. Head of Service Delivery in IT Service Operations, Natalie McIntosh, was the deserving winner of the ‘Simpler the Better’ award, for demonstrating simpler and better ways of doing things.

In her role, Natalie is responsible for making sure that all of the IT devices that Medibank employees use matches their needs and are always up to date. The business employs thousands of people so there’s no doubt that this is a big responsibility and comes with its daily obstacles.

“The biggest challenge is finding the balance between the reactive and the proactive. Working in a support based role means that all plans for your day can be thrown out the window in an instant should an IT ‘crisis’ hit.”

Despite the challenges, Natalie says that her job is something she finds very rewarding as every day is different and she has the opportunity to collaborate with people from different teams throughout the business.

Her work ethic is something that hasn’t gone unnoticed, with her colleagues nominating her for the ‘Simpler the Better’ award at last year’s Shine Awards. Although it wasn’t something she expected, it’s something that has stuck with her and continues to drive her.

“It was slightly embarrassing, to be honest, but I was and still am very grateful for the recognition of the job that I do.  It definitely reminded me that by making IT simple, more areas of the business can access it easily. The invitation to a great party atop the Eureka Tower was also so much fun!”

Natalie is quick to make sure that the great work that her team does is acknowledged and that the award is for them as well. This, in addition to having plenty of room for growth and development, is why she says she loves being a part of Medibank.

“I have such an amazing team around me whom I can always turn to for support whenever I need. I also love that there are always opportunities I can put my hand up for, it’s great!”

When she’s not making Information Technology simple and easier to access for employees, Natalie tries to spend as much time with her loved ones, enjoying delicious food, going for big walks and of course, diving into a binge-worthy TV series.

Natalie and her partner enjoy making the most of their free time out and about.
