Redwan Hamed joined Medibank in late November 2017. Redwan came on board as a Legal Intern, through a cadetship program offered by the Smith Family. Both the program and internship at Medibank runs for eight weeks each year during his studies.
So Redwan, tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born in Carlton and am one of four children. I’m of Lebanese background and currently live in Campbellfield. I graduated from Sirius College Meadow Fair Campus in Broadmeadows in 2016 with a VCE Certificate and an ATAR of 96.95. At the moment, I’m in my second year of studying law and commerce at Monash University.

So what does your role at Medibank entail?
I am a part of the broader Medibank Legal team. I’ve been doing rotations around sectors within the Legal team and have been tasked with research assignments, developing case notes on legal updates and drafting responses to a few legal matters. In addition to this, I’ve also contributed to the development of the organisation’s compliance management system.
What have you learnt since joining the Medibank family?
The list is extensive! From learning how to construct work emails, to engaging in social interactions and networking, and everything in between. Some of the key things that Medibank has taught me are the importance of time management, emotional intelligence, and independence. This is my first professional work experience and Medibank has done an amazing job by presenting me with the wonderful opportunity of learning how to manage my life and learning how to approach everyday challenges. Having the chance to meet with CEO Craig Drummond, as well as the Legal Senior Leadership team, has really opened me up to a world of lessons about life, career pathways, and new experiences.

Any highlights so far of your time with Medibank?
I love the people, the work environment, and the culture. The employees at Medibank are so amazing when it comes to welcoming a newcomer with open arms. The support I have received has been above and beyond anything I ever expected. There’s a genuine interest in getting to know one another and the flexibility is incredible. All these aspects together make the level of comfort just right.
Our Purpose is ‘Better Health for Better Lives,’ what does this mean to you?
I think Medibank does a great job at creating and promoting an environment where everyone has a sense of belonging and acceptance. Employees are encouraged to uphold the interests of their customers and fellow colleagues through their services. By prioritising care and respect, employees are pushed to develop a selfless attitude.
How do you switch off from work and university?
I love taking part in different sports! A few of my interests include indoor soccer, indoor beach volleyball, tennis, and swimming. I’m also a big fan of fishing and heading to the movies for some downtime.
