Your recruitment process

  • We review your CV
A requirement of the recruitment process is to have a CV that contains the relevant information to determine whether the candidate meets the mandatory criteria set by Defence. This is relevant to the last 5 years of employment and must include the following:
    I. Start and finish dates including the months
II. FTE / average weekly hours (e.g. Part time – 24hrs a week, casual – average hours 16)
III. Detailed summary of duties relevant to the role

CVs sent without this format will be required to be amended before proceeding.

    FAQs

Q: What are the mandatory selection criteria for the role I am interested in?
A: Click on the relevant role group above for more details on the mandatory selection criteria

Q: Do I have to make these changes to my whole CV?
A: No – only for the last 5 years

Q: Why am I making these changes?
A: Your CV will form part of your Credentialing profile where a Committee will review your details and determine whether you meet the mandatory criteria of the position

Q: What if I don’t meet all the mandatory criteria?
A: Depending on the circumstances there are options where a waiver can be submitted. Your Talent Acquisition Partner will be able to advise you whether you are eligible

  • Phone discussion

If your CV is shortlisted you will be contacted by the Talent Acquisition Partner for Garrison to discuss your background, employment history and motivation for applying for the role. It is also a great opportunity to discuss the Defence contract and ask questions to see if this is the right career move for you.

    FAQs

Q: How long is the phone discussion?
A: About 30mins depending on how many questions you have. The recruitment process will also be discussed during this time so you are clear on the next steps should you progress

  • Interviews

Your interview may be on base, a venue outside the base or over the phone depending on your location. You will be interviewed by the Regional Manager who is responsible for that base and is regularly on site liaising with ADF personnel and Medibank employees. They will be looking to see whether your previous employment matches up to the role and how your skill set will fit into a Defence environment.

    FAQs

Q: How long will the interview go for?
A: Depending on the role the time can range from 30mins to 60mins

Q: What should I do to prepare?
A: The interview will include behavioural questions so come prepared with an understanding of Defence and some good examples of what you have achieved in the past. This website is a good starting point for your research

  • An optional site visit

A site visit to the base can be arranged so you can visit the health centre facility and observe the day to day of the role.

    FAQs

Q: How long does a site visit take?
A: Generally a couple of hours to visit the facility, tour the base and see the operations of the healthcare team

Q: Will I be paid for this time?
A: No. We expect candidates to find their own time to visit the base, which is optional and not a requirement of the process

  • Security checks
If you are successful at interview you will be asked to apply for a Baseline Security Clearance through AGSVA (Australian Government Security Vetting Agency). All clinical and non-clinical MHS staff are required to have this and all employment offers are subject to being granted a clearance. Your Talent Acquisition Partner will send you the relevant forms to complete this process. Please note that the timeline for obtaining a clearance can take approximately 6-8 weeks.
  • Credentialing
Along with your AGSVA submission, you will also need to be credentialed, this is done through an online portal called Mercury Credential. You will first be invited to log in to your profile which will be linked to a position with Medibank. Once you upload your details including qualifications, employment history, and training, your profile will be reviewed by an independent committee who will decide if you meet the mandatory criteria for the role. The Committee meets fortnightly to review completed profiles and all employment offers are subject to being successfully credentialed.
  • You get the job
Congratulations! You’ve been offered the job. After an acceptance of a verbal offer, we will send you a contract or employment agreement letter, along with other commencement paperwork for you to complete. You’re then ready to start work with us.
