Medibank’s Telehealth handles over 1.8 million interactions a year across Australia via phone, chat and email and provides services like Healthdirect, Nurse on Call, After Hours GP Helpline, Beyond Blue and many more.

What can I apply for?

There are a range of roles across all of our programs. Below, we have listed the main clinical roles which we recruit for regularly throughout the year.

All of our Telehealth roles are over the phone, so we look for candidates who have strong IT skills to allow them to type and talk at the same time. As most roles are located at home you will want to consider how this type of model suits the way you like to work and the practicalities of your work at home environment, as well as phone and internet connections.

Typically, we require candidates to possess the following skills and experience, but this can vary from time to time so please make sure to refer to the requirements as listed in the job advertisement.

  • After Hours GP (AHGP)


    This helpline provides the delivery of after-hours GP consultations, involving assessment, advice, and management as needed to callers in rural and remote areas after hours and on weekends and public holidays.

    Our Telephone GPs work autonomously and have the confidence and proven ability to operate independently without immediate supervisory support. Performance achievement and development is primarily self-driven and managed within the scope of the company’s leading-edge support technology, training, and services, complemented by inclusion within our extensive network of medical professionals.

    Qualifications required + preferred experience

    • MBBS or equivalent qualifications which confer eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia and;
    • Current registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
    • At least Three years (recent) working as a GP with a minimum one year current Australian GP experience.
    • Ideally, you will have had previous experience in teleconsultations and worked with a diverse demographic of patients.


  • Mental Health


    We run a number of Mental Health programs which deliver a range of services including comprehensive assessment, triage and referral, crisis intervention and response coordination, case management and telephone counselling.


    Our Counsellors work on a number of dedicated programs and provide strength based and solutions focused support and counselling, mental health education, referral to providers and crisis intervention over the phone or via web chat interactions online.

    Qualifications required + preferred experience

    • 3-year degree AND/OR Masters in one of the following: Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, Welfare OR;
    • 3-year degree in unrelated field plus MA in one of the above OR;
    • 3-year degree in unrelated field plus Graduate Diploma in Counselling from ACAP (2 year Course)
    • 2 years full-time minimum experience in counselling post relevant qualification. Placement and voluntary experience is unfortunately not counted as full-time experience for this role


    Mental Health Professionals

    Our Mental Health Professionals manage a telephone triage based service for a number of health districts and their role, is primarily to perform comprehensive mental health and risk assessment and if required make necessary referrals to the local Mental Health team or assist the caller to access alternate support in their local area. A smaller part of the role involves after-hours care on behalf of case managers, and crisis intervention with some brief counselling.

    Qualifications + preferred experience

    • 3-year degree in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work or Nursing (must be registered with AHPRA or AASW accredited)
    • 3 years minimum experience in acute or community mental health


  • Nurse Triage


    Our Nurse Triage team takes calls from virtually all over Australia and will triage symptoms and provide recommendations and help callers make informed healthcare decisions. They can provide general health information and, if appropriate, referral to local service providers. This is a safe and accessible service operation 24/7, 365 days a year.

    Qualifications required + preferred experience

    • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent
    • Registered Nurse with current registration in good standing without sanctions or restrictions with AHPRA
    • Minimum of three years full-time equivalent recent clinical nursing experience as Registered Nurse Division 1.
    • A varied nursing background involving substantial public contact. Inclusive of, but not limited to A&E, Paediatric, Community Care and Acute Medical/Surgical.
