Our Digital & Technology Graduate Program

It’s an exciting time here at Medibank as we’re about to embark on our first Graduate Program for our Digital & Technology space! In this Graduate Program we’re looking for innovative thinkers who care deeply about our purpose and want to help us move forward with new technologies. 

Our Graduate Program is structured around 3 x 6-month rotations across Medibank and ahm. You will have the oppourtunity to rotate across the areas of API, Digital Frontend (web and mobile), Cloud, Digital Operations, Test Practice or BA Practice. 

Your first rotation will be in a team that aligns with your studies and passions, whether you’re interested in Data Analytics or Software Engineering we’ll have a place for you. We’re excited that we get to play a role in unlocking your potential and we want to help take your career to places you didn’t even know existed. We aim to challenge you and by moving to different teams you can develop knowledge across our business throughout your time here. 

No matter what rotation you move into you will have the chance to contribute to real-life, practical outcomes that focus on unlocking Australia’s potential by creating the best quality of life.

What we're looking for

We’d love to receive applications from Graduates from a broad range of disciplines in technology and this is because we know that whatever you have studied, you’ll bring your unique skillset and insights to the role. We recognise that skills and capabilities can be developed through a range of life experiences and we’re simply basing our qualification criteria on the completion of your degree.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for the 2024 Graduate Program if:  

• You are in the final year of your undergraduate or postgraduate degree and are able to work full-time as of February 2024;  
• You have completed your university studies within 3 years at the time of your application;  
• A degree in technology, whether it be Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data etc; and 
• You are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident or hold a graduate working visa.

Application and recruitment process

• Step 1 Get to know us

  Get to know us better. Browse the Careers site to find out more about our business, our people, our culture and what we care about. If you think we are the perfect fit for each other, submit your application form and resume via the application link.

• Step 2 Online assessment

  You’ll receive an email inviting you to complete an online assessment via the Sapia platform, you’ll need to complete this within 48hrs. For the online assessment, you will also complete an online first interview via a chat experience. You can do this anywhere, either on desktop, tablet or mobile and be sure to find a quiet place for 25-30 minutes so you can answer all the questions thoughtfully. There is so much insight about your personality that can be identified based on how and what you write – so you can expect a fantastic and fully customised personality profile with career coaching tips after submitting your answers.

• Step 3 Speak with the Talent team

  Once we have reviewed both your application and online assessment results a member of the Talent team will give you a call to have a quick chat about you and the next steps in the process.

• Step 4 Motivational interview

  The next virtual interview is a great opportunity to showcase your abilities, motivations and skills.

• Step 5 Case study interview

  Get ready to showcase your potential! In this interview round, you will work through a case study with leaders from the business.

• Step 6 Background checks

  If you are successful post the case study, we will conduct reference checks, visa & working rights checks and police checks.

• Step 7 Offer!

  If all goes well with the background checks, we will give you a call to make a verbal offer and go through the details of that offer. This will be followed by a formal employment contract, along with more onboarding information.

• When will the graduate program start?

  The Medibank Graduate program will commence early February 2024.

• Where is the program based?

  Our head office is located in Melbourne. However at Medibank, we believe work is something we do, not somewhere we go. That’s why we have employees located across the country and will accept applications from anywhere in Australia.

• How many roles is Medibank recruiting for in its Digital & Technology graduate program this year?

  We’re recruiting for 2 roles for our 2024 Graduate Program, they will form a cohort of 4 other graduates in Feb next year!

• Can I speak to someone about the physical requirements of the assessment process or the role?

• How are rotation placements determined?

  The placements are determined by taking into account your skills, academic qualifications, preferences and the operational requirements of the department. The span of the 3 x 6-month rotations program is designed to provide broad exposure to the range of our work.

• I missed out last year, should I apply again?

  Yes! Each year is a different process – there are different committee members assessing applications and a different field of candidates you are competing with. Candidates who remain interested in working with Medibank, particularly those who are completing their studies or undertaking relevant work experience, should consider applying again in future. It is a highly competitive process and it can take multiple attempts before being successful.

• The Medibank program is extremely competitive. What are you actually looking for? What would make me stand out?

  We look at each candidate’s application, including their qualifications and professional experience and take into account transferable skills from a range of employment options. A candidate who has worked in areas of hospitality, for example, may bring skills in problem solving, adapting to change and managing people – all skills strongly relevant to working in Medibank.

  Detailed ‘insider’ knowledge of Medibank is not expected. However, we do expect you to have done some research on Medibank’s offering, purpose, vision and values.
